Established by Anthony Leighs in 1995, Leighs Construction has grown into a multi-million dollar business. Our South Island operations are managed from our head office in Christchurch and we have recently expanded into the Auckland market with our Auckland branch opening in early 2015. Our wealth and breadth of knowledge and accumulated expertise enables us to deliver construction projects across a number of sectors, including health, commercial, retail, primary industry, agriculture, education and government, both at home in New Zealand and overseas.
At Leighs we offer the opportunity to work with our team of aspirational, driven, energetic and passionate individuals. As we continue to grow we seek expressions of interest from high calibre candidates looking for an opportunity to play their part in one of the world's most exciting commercial construction opportunities.
Generally my role is to support the Project Manager on site. Breaking that down to specifics, I coordinate with the relevant consultants and subcontractors ensuring we install as planned, on time and on budget. On a daily basis I do a lot of site management and task allocation.
I’m from Christchurch so it was appealing to work for a locally owned company rather than one with overseas investors.
During my interview I got a really good feel for Leighs, their staff, the wider team and was initially employed as a carpenter, then had the opportunity to move into a cadetship position which is fantastic and well recognised within the industry.
Really good! Although we are ever growing, the company has managed to retain that are family-oriented feel to it and the career progression here is immense. I feel well supported as a cadet and even though everyone is busy, they always make time for you and encourage you to extend yourself. They also have an amazing intranet system that makes all the aspects of my job so much easier.
There’s absolutely no cap on opportunities here and there’s certainly no shortage of work anytime soon. With Leighs being a key player in the Christchurch rebuild I believe they will be considered an employer of choice.
Completing a wide variety of Carpentry tasks on a Commercial site and helping others around me.
I joined Leighs Construction because they are a very hard working team, very recognised in the industry and have lots of experience.
The guys that I work with are very skilled and complete to a high standard work hard but also have a laugh as well.
I am looking forward to the rebuild of Christchurch, pushing forward in the industry, helping Leighs make a great name for themselves.
I work closely with Site and Project Managers around the overall detail of the job. This means help with site set-up, support site surveying, review shop drawings with engineers and architects, pick up discrepancies, supervise work as required, assist with QA and view site plans to clarify any questions that the site team have. I’m on site from day one right until near completion of the job.
I came from Ireland where there was limited career opportunities at that time. Christchurch has some very exciting challenges ahead of them so it was an easy decision to move here. Leighs presence across the city was increasing, I could see the growth opportunities and believe there is secure work for a long time yet which was important to me.
It’s a manageable network of employees – not too big nor too small so allows you to interact with everyone on site. They have an amazing intranet system in place which makes the management of my job very efficient. They’re a supportive organisation which extends to making themselves available if there are any problems and also outside of work on a social level.
There’s a lot of work ahead of us and I’m confident Leighs will be one of the bigger players in the Christchurch market so watch this space!
My role involves the management of all financial aspects of construction projects from the initial pricing through to the final subcontractor and main contractor account settlements. Along the way we seek to minimise project costs and enhance value for money.
I joined Leighs as I was looking for a company that shared the same passion for construction as I did as well as having a strong desire to be leaders in our field. I have now been here for 18 months.
I enjoy working in a passionate, dynamic and varied environment with high calibre colleagues. At Leighs you’re not just a number or a person at a desk, your contribution to the success of the business is highly valued, were good ideas get acted upon and changes made were necessary for the good of the business. Leighs has a great team culture that is evident from office management through to the on-site staff which is vital when delivering complex projects. Leighs Construction is a company that is well lead and will be leading the way in the rebuild of Christchurch.
We are obviously entering into a very exciting time for the construction industry in Christchurch. We have the opportunity to be part of the rebuild of vast amounts of the city centre, and be involved in once in a life time projects. Leighs are very much positioning themselves as leaders in the rebuild, and I want to be a part of it.
My role involves new business procurement, tendering and estimating
I joined Leighs to be involved in an exciting and dynamic company. I have been here for 5 ½ years now and that is certainly the case.
I enjoy the variety and wide range of work we are involved in and working with the great like-minded positive people within the team.
I am really looking forward to the growth and opportunities ahead.
My role involves supervising the construction of commercial projects by managing Leighs operatives, sub contractors and site deliveries. A large part of the responsibility is to ensure the quality of the work is up to our expected high standards and all health and safety requirements are met.
I joined Leighs as I was looking for an employer that was to be a driving force of the Christchurch rebuild. Part of the recruitment process was to meet with a few site managers, where I learned the passionate environment was one to be a part of.
I appreciate the challenging and unique projects undertaken by Leighs, which are made enjoyable by the friendly working environment which extends from the office to the construction site. There is a sense of camaraderie throughout the workforce.
The Christchurch reconstruction is of utmost importance in the Canterbury region, of which I am proud to be a part of, as a member of the Leighs team. Within the company there is encouragement for employee’s career development, which is refreshing to see for both the company and individuals future progress.
